| Primary Duties |
Position Summary:
Operates and maintains the high-pressure boilers, and controls the generation of continuous supply of steam for hospital use.
Specific Responsibilities:
____ Tours the boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters, and gauges to insure safe, reliable operation of the Boiler and Power plant.
____ Records readings in log books or other forms provided.
____ Regularly starts, stops, and demonstrates the ability to adjust and regulate equipment.
____ Performs preventive maintenance on all mechanical equipment, as directed, in accordance with hospital policies.
____ Maintains the Power House in a clean, workmanlike manner.
____ Follows verbal and written instructions and established procedures.
____ Manually operates valves and adjusts controls to set specified fuel feed, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure of boilers.
____ Under supervision, prepares, opens, and cleans boilers for annual inspections.
___ Notifies Chief Engineer when repairs or assistance is needed.
____ Tests and treats boiler feed water.
____ Adheres to regulations imposed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
____ Understands, responds, and is able to execute role in fire and disaster drills and in emergency situations.
____ Demonstrates compliance with the hospital’s and department’s dress code policy by appearing well-groomed, wearing ID badge while on duty, and maintaining a professional appearance.
____ Observes hospital policy concerning Infection Control Standards, smoking restrictions, telephone usage, and other rules governing conduct while at work.
____ Observes hospital policy on safety and the use of personal protective equipment.

| Minimum Qualifications |
Education, Skills & Experience Required:
High School diploma or equivalent. Three years experience in boiler plant operations. Must possess a Blue Seal Engineer license.
