Primary Duties Position Summary:

Administers Roentgen rays and/or radioactive substances to patients for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physicians.

Specific Responsibilities:

____ Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients.

____ Cleans and disinfects x-ray room and equipment.

____ Prepares barium, iodinated contrast media and other chemical mixtures for radiographic exams according to written directions.

____ Assists Radiologist in the administration of intravenous contrast material.

____ Prepares patient for x-ray. Explains procedures, and documents education on interdisciplinary form for in-patients and transfers patients to table. Positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.

____ Properly identifies all patients using two identifiers, verifies Rx and MD order, check ID band.

____ Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment and determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time. Arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient. Adjusts lead shield and selects proper film.

____ Documents fluoro time for all fluoro, OR and Pain Management cases. Schedules these cases in IDX, resolves exceptions as necessary.

____ Protects self and patients from injury and unnecessary radiation by directly observing and utilizing adequate Technique Factors.

____ Processes CR & DR images. Makes sure they are properly oriented, identified and marked before transmitting images to PACS.

____ Develops film in accordance with photographic techniques. Assists in maintaining darkroom.

____ Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patientís condition.

____ Differentiates anatomical abnormalities and bring information to attention of Radiologist.

____ Maintains stock supplies and performs general office duties when deemed necessary

____ Compiles Quality Assurance data for regulatory agency compliance.

____ Assists in making x-rays copies and all other film library duties when deemed necessary.

____ Takes mobile x-ray unit to patientís room or ER.

____ Assists Chief Technologist in maintaining radiographic technique charts.

____ Assists in training of new staff members and students.

____ Performs related duties as assigned.

____ Rotates shifts as needed.

____ Assumes on-call as needed.

____ Maintains and respects confidentiality.

____ Complies with hospital dress codes by wearing ID badge and maintaining professional appearance.

____ Demonstrates commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standards.

____ Assists and transports patients in emergency situations to designated areas. Arranges for transportation to and from nursing units.

____ Performs duties in an independent manner with little need for direct supervision.

____ Attends all staff meetings.

____ Incorporates the physiological and developmental age of patient into overall plan for delivery of care

____ Observes Hospital policy concerning Fire and Safety regulations, Infection Control Standards, smoking regulations, telephone usage and other rules governing conduct.

____ Utilizes time in an effective manner.

____ Adjusts personal schedule in case of fluctuations in workload of the department.

____ Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly.

____ Reports any suggestions or positive changes to supervisor.

____ Performs other duties as assigned.

____ Incorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of care.

____ Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the Hospital.

____ Responsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English language.

____ Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physicians.

____ Utilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures; employee shall be required to lift all objects as is practicable.

____ The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing. Must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crouch.

Minimum Qualifications Educations, Skills & Experience Required:

Graduate of an approved school of x-ray technology. Current and valid NJ licensure. Experience preferred but not necessary.
