Primary Duties Specific Responsibilities:

____ Assumes charge responsibilities in the field including the organization of patient care

and scene control.

____ Serves as a patient advocate.

____ Responsible for assessing scene safety prior to entering, including observing for any

potential hazards and utilizes protective clothing and equipment as necessary.

____ Obtain pertinent data from patients, families, bystanders, and/or identification found

on patient.

____ Observes, records, and reports patientís symptoms, activity, reactions, and any changes

in patientís condition utilizing specific assessment techniques.

____ Supervises Basic Life Support in the provisions of care to patients requiring Advanced

Life Support.

____ Performs critical care, Advanced Life Support, treatment modalities, special procedures, etc., as ordered by the Base Physician or per standing orders in cases of radio failure according to NJ Department of Health standards and the Holy Name Hospital policies and Procedures.

____ Appropriately uses standing orders in the delivery of patientís care as per NJ 8:41-10.1 thru 10.13.

____ Appropriately treats patients during periods of radio failure as per 8:41-3.8.

____ Performs duties within scope of practice as defined in 8:41-4.17.

____ Performs approved skills and procedures as per 8:31-7-2.

____ Assesses equipment for effectiveness and recommends changes as needed.

____ Maintains equipment in clean, safe and proper working order.

____ Performs equipment, medication, and supplies inventory at the beginning of each shift, noting any problems on the vehicle checksheet.

____ Properly identifies and disposes of all waste materials.

____ Properly cleans reusable equipment and prepares it for central sterile.

____ Operates MICU vehicles in a safe and responsible manner at all times, including the appropriate use of emergency lights and sirens as per 8:41-3.9.

____ Shares with the Coordinator and /or Clinical Supervisor, the responsibility of orientation of new employees.

____ Provides inservice education to BLS, police, fire, rescue, nursing and others as required.

____ Performs, when necessary, any of the approved MICU procedures within the ER in an emergency situation under the direction of the physician.

____ Represents Holy Name Hospital by participating in public relations programs as requested.

____ Performs additional appropriate duties as assigned by the coordinator.

____ Demonstrates ability to properly carry patients, equipment etc.

____ Accurately documents patient assessment, treatment and response. Provides oral and written reports to Holy Name Hospital Medical Control and the receiving hospital.

____ Keeps accurate records of all dispatched calls on daily log.

____ Obtains dispositions on all patients seen by MICU.

____ Orders, stocks and keeps records of supplies received through Pharmacy, Storeroom etc.

____ Keeps an up-to-date log of skills and CEUís as required by OEMS and submits data to the Clinical Supervisor for the timely recertification.

____ Maintains a positive, professional image.

____ Participates effectively in evaluation procedures by providing data for assessment of clinical performance.

____ Participates in formal self-evaluation by identifying areas of strength and limitation.

____ Seeks supervision of own actions, where appropriate.

____ Plans and participates in education programs and workshops to increase professional

competency and meet personnel and professional goals.

____ Understands legal consequences associated with Emergency Medical Services.

____ Identifies unsafe patient care practices and assumes responsibility for intervention.

____ Actively participates on committees as requested.

____ Functions as a positive role model.

____ Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications Education, Skills & Experience Required:

Current NJ MICP Certification, BCLS, AHA-ACLS. MICP and MICN must possess a valid driverís license. Must maintain current MICP/MICN certifications, Professional rescuer CPR, AHA-ACLS, BLS skill review bi-annually, ALS CEU 48 hours bi-annually. Prefer certification in PHTLS, PALS, ICS, Emergency and Evasive Driving and other courses, lectures or seminars.

Patient evaluation and care, HNH and departmental procedures, equipment maintenance procedures interpersonal communications skills, and proper documentation procedures.
