Institute for Clinical Research
As research director for the Institute for Clinical Research at Holy Name Hospital, Dr. Patwari oversees all of the hospital's clinical research efforts. His responsibilities include business development, investigator training, staff training, and supervision of all clinical trials at the hospital.

Dr. Patwari received his medical training in Bangladesh, where he specialized in pulmonary diseases and was on the faculty of the Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital in Dhaka (IDCH). From 1990-1994, he was a research assistant professor (visiting) in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. From 1997-2004, he held several administrative and research positions at Beth Israel Medical Center and St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, both in New York City.

Dr. Patwari has worked as a principal investigator, subinvestigator, research coordinator, manager and director and managed many studies in multiple therapeutic areas. He is certified as a clinical investigator by the Drug Information Association (DIA) and as a clinical research coordinator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP).

Thomas Birch, MD
Medical Director
Institute for Clinical Research
As a medical director for the Institute for Clinical Researchat Holy Name Hospital,  Dr. Birch acts as a liaison between attending physicians and clinical research. He addresses any research related clinical issues with the research director. Dr. Birch also works as a principal investigator for infectious disease and internal medicine trials.

Dr. Birch received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin and trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His interests include: the impact of antibiotic use on nosocomial ecology, treatment of HIV infection and vaccination development.
