Cardiac Catheterization Lab

Cardiac Catheterization LabHoly Name Hospital's Cardiac Catheterization Labs detect abnormalities in coronary arteries and the heart's valves and chambers. Physicians use this non-surgical diagnostic procedure to evaluate patients who exhibit problems such as chest pain, or abnormal stress tests to determine the best method for correction and/or treatment. During this non-surgical procedure, a thin catheter is threaded through the artery that leads from the leg to the heart. Dye injected through the catheter flows to the heart, allowing the cardiac team to visualize the heart and blood vessels on a monitor. Patients are monitored after the procedure by registered nurses in a recovery area.

Because of the large volume of patients who are choosing to have cardiac catheterizations at Holy Name, a second cardiac catheterization lab has been constructed with new state-of-the-art technology to handle high-risk patients. The new Innova 3100™ provides detailed real-time fluoroscopic images of the human anatomy for diagnostic and treatment procedures. Plans are also under way to use the new technology for treating peripheral vascular, cardiovascular, and neurological disorders without major surgery.
