Dialysis is a method of purifying the blood and performing other functions of the kidneys for patients with end-stage renal disease (whose kidneys have failed). Holy Name Hospital's Regional Dialysis Center — one of the largest in the nation to be based at a community hospital — meets or exceeds all clinical standards set forth by the Trans-Atlantic Renal Council and enjoys a high level of patient satisfaction.
Because the Regional Dialysis Center is located within a hospital, patients have easy access to a full range of emergency services, ancillary services, and medical specialists should the need arise. Comprising 37 stations for acute and chronic hemodialysis, the Regional Dialysis Center also has facilities for self-care hemodialysis. The staff provides instruction in home hemodialysis for patients who meet certain criteria. The Regional Dialysis Center’s team of board-certified nephrologists, nurses, social workers, and dietitians encourage patients to keep active, maintain independence, and focus on a positive future through a program modeled after the Life Options Rehabilitation Advisory Council’s "Five Es":
