Q. How is HNH Fitness different from a commercial gym or health club?

A. HNH Fitness is a medically-based center where the focus is on wellness and fitness, not just aesthetics. It is not a commercial health club or spa. Through lifestyle and behavior changes, exercise and nutrition guidance, we reduce members' risk factors for lifestyle-related disease and promote early detection of health problems that decrease longevity and impair quality of life.

Q. Who can benefit from a HNH Fitness membership?

A. Everyone. You might be an athlete who is experiencing no symptoms or signs of disease, or a healthy person who just wants to stay that way. You could be recovering from cardiac or cancer surgery or have a systemic disorder like diabetes. You may have one or more risk factors you want to reduce-high cholesterol or high blood pressure, for example. You may be slightly or extremely overweight, or have arthritis or osteoporosis.

A. HNH Fitness is a program of Holy Name Medical Center. Membership in HNH Fitness provides a direct link to Holy Name, its physicians and other healthcare personnel. Scientific evidence suggests that individuals who undertake a fitness regime with the assistance and backup of medical professionals enjoy enhanced safety, and better and longer lasting results.

Q. Who's on the HNH FItness staff and how would they design a fitness plan for me?

A. The staff consists of medical and fitness professionals, including exercise physiologists, physical therapists and certified nutritionists. Members are assigned a personal fitness instructor who works with them to design an individualized fitness program with input from their personal physician and health history, as well as a BodyAge™ evaluation. Ongoing monitoring ensures that goals are being met and allows modifications to the plan when necessary. Before the start of your routine fitness visits, there's an orientation process consisting of three sessions in which we analyze current abilities and establish future goals.

Q. What might be part of my personalized fitness program?

A. That depends on your health status, goals and physician recommendations. In general, HNH Fitness health and fitness programs are broad-based regimes that encompass different kinds of individual and group exercise (cardio, strength, flexibility), dietary advice, educational lectures and referrals (if necessary) to experts in behavioral health, integrative medicine, and spiritual and family development.

Q. How does HNH Fitness use technology to formulate members' fitness plans?

A. State-of-the-art computer software helps HNH Fitness professionals establish a starting point for each member's individual fitness program. It helps us monitor your exercise and dietary progress, make adjustments to your regime, and allows you and your doctor(s) to remotely access your information. Technology ensures objectivity, accuracy and documented results.

Q. What is the facility like?

A. The HNH Fitness Center is located in Oradell, New Jersey. It consists of 23,000 square feet of state-of-the-art fitness, exercise, sports medicine services, and a newly expanded physical therapy and education space. Our cardiovascular training section contains over 90 pieces of equipment, and we offer group cycling and step classes, Pilates, yoga and more.
The Center also features a day spa, child care and spa-like amenities, including a sauna and steam room. The environment is bright and friendly, not institutional or intimidating.

Q. Will my health insurance cover membership in HNH Fitness?

A. If your physician has prescribed HNH Fitness as treatment for a specific health diagnosis, your insurance might provide coverage. Check with your insurer. You may also be entitled to tax benefits. Please consult your tax adviser.
