About Us

About UsFor more than 80 years, northern New Jersey has turned to Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck for health care excellence, compassionate medical and nursing care, technological advances and an atmosphere of healing and respect for all.

Founded and sponsored in 1925 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, the hospital has grown to become a comprehensive 361-bed acute care medical center that consistently remembers its community hospital roots.

With centers of excellence in cancer care, cardiovascular services, interventional radiology, dialysis treatment, women’s health care and neurology services, plus a host of other state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment, and health management services, Holy Name Hospital provides high quality health care across a continuum that extends from prevention through treatment and on toward recovery and wellness.

Located in a metropolitan area boasting many world-class medical centers, Holy Name Hospital is distinguished by its long history of innovation and remarkable record of achievements and firsts

  • It was the first hospital in New Jersey and the third in the world to use respiratory gating technology to treat lung cancer, enhancing the accuracy of radiation therapy and minimizing exposure to nearby, healthy tissue.
  • The first hospital in New Jersey to perform Cardiac PET/CT stress testing, available at only a handful of prestigious medical institutions in the United States.  It is also the first to offer both Cardiac PET/CT stress testing and 64-Slice CT Angiography.
  • The first hospital in New Jersey to offer Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), a minimally invasive alternative to lung cancer surgery.
  • The first hospital in the nation to receive three JD Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Awards for Inpatient, Outpatient and Emergency Service Excellence.

Holy Name is among a select group of hospitals in the state to receive Primary Stroke Center designation by the Joint Commission.  Its state-of-the-art Institute for Clinical Research exceeds the highest standards for carrying out today's most promising clinical trials. The Interventional Institute is using revolutionary technology to treat chronic and inoperable conditions without surgery.  And the new department of Maternal/Fetal Medicine is offering amazing 3D and 4D ultrasound imaging to help identify risks and anomalies in high risk pregnancies.

Each year, the hospital serves more than 26,000 inpatients, 44,000 Emergency Department patients and 18,000 outpatient clinic and ambulatory surgery patients. There are more than 700 board-certified physicians within all specialties and sub-specialties on the medical staff.

Affiliation with the New York-Presbyterian Health System in 1997 has brought expanded services to the community including: an upgraded neonatal special care nursery with assistance from New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, increased access to clinical trials programs, and expanded educational opportunities for Holy Name physicians. The hospital is also an academic affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
