We use a unique, team approach to care.
MS affects every person differently. Therefore, each patient has unique treatment needs. The patient who comes to the Holy Name MS Center receives a thorough neurologic evaluation by a board certified neurologist who is an MS specialist. Problems pertaining to MS are identified and medication or other therapies are prescribed where appropriate. Referrals to physicians in other specialties, such as internal medicine, gynecology, urology, infusion services etc. can be made when necessary. Patients who are in need of rehabilitation may be referred to Holy Name's Center for Physical Rehabilitation.
Nursing care
A certified nurse practitioner helps patients learn self-care activities such as bladder management. For many patients, these activities are stepping stones to a more independent lifestyle. Other nursing services include patient and family education, patient advocacy, and coordination of services available at the Center and in the community.
Counseling
Counseling services, including individual, family, and group programs help patients and families adjust to multiple sclerosis and its ramifications. Patients frequently become participants in support and therapeutic groups of the Center or local MS Chapters. Individual counseling services are also available.
