Holy Name Medical Center Receives "Incredible Good Works" Award at 2014 CIANJ Chairman's Reception

Date: 3/7/2014

"A powerful and inspirational story"

Holy Name Medical Center (HNMC) was honored at the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) Chairman's Reception: Saluting The Generosity of Business "Because Caring Works" on Thursday, March 7.  Michael Maron, President & CEO of HNMC, accepted the"Incredible Good Works" Award in recognition of HNMC's generosity of business and its efforts in providing critically-needed financial, clinical and operational support to Hôpital Sacré Coeur (HSC) - the only reliable medical provider in northern Haiti.

Since the catastrophic 2010 earthquake, HNMC employees have been working with HSC staff and the community to renovate the hospital's physical plant and find solutions to bring structure and stability to HSC. HNMC volunteers are installing equipment; providing pharmaceuticals, supplies and medical, nursing, administrative and operations expertise; developing IT, finance and hiring systems; and educating Haitian healthcare professionals in current medical practice and hospital management. The 60,000 residents of Milot in the impoverished nation of Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, are the beneficiaries of HNMC's effort.

The award recognition certificate reads, "The Commerce and Industry Association salutes the incredible good works of Holy Name Medical Center that are manifested through its 25-year commitment to Hôpital Sacré Coeur in the Milot region of Haiti — a place to which very few people provide assistance and where the most basic human needs go unmet. Holy Name's commitment ... grew from the passion of a few individuals and is now an organized effort, applying the talents of its personnel and finances to bring hope and a brighter future to countless individuals."

"Our judges were struck by the amazing task Holy Name has taken on by sending personnel and resources to help Hôpital Sacré Coeur for the past 25 years and now after the devastation of the earthquake to pledge to build a new hospital," says Diane C. Walsh, Executive Vice President of Operations at CIANJ. "It was a powerful and inspirational story."

Holy Name Medical Center's commitment to the people of Haiti advances the medical center's mission of "helping our community to achieve the highest attainable level of health." Achieving that optimal level of community health necessitates expanding the concept of community beyond the boundaries of the Holy Name service areas — even to the impoverished nation of Haiti.
