Speech-language pathology helps patients restore communication skills and swallowing ability. Speech pathologists evaluate and treat articulation, language, cognitive, swallowing, voice, and fluency disorders. Patients with the following may be helped with speech-language pathology: aphasia/apraxia/dysarthria, neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson's disease, ALS, head trauma), alaryngeal speech, problems relating from head and neck cancer, dysphagia, voice disorders, stuttering, articulation disorders, children's speech and language disorders, accent reduction, and cognitive disorders.
