With more than 1,200 cases of measles in the U.S. as of mid-August, New Jersey doctors are dismayed to see previously eradicated viruses making a comeback across the country. They believe it corresponds with an uptick in the number of families opting out of regulated childhood vaccines.
After learning about the case of a man of Mexican origin who is torn between life and death due to liver problems, Dr. Mónica Chávez, of the Holy Name Medical Center, explains that Hispanics have more incidence, ethnically, to develop these conditions "for being more prone to obesity and diabetes". He adds that alcoholic hepatitis can be reversed, "what cannot be reversed is when the liver and liver cells are replaced by fibrosis."
