Holy Name's School of Nursing offers numerous partial scholarships — nearly $140,000 given out annually — to students in both the RN and LPN programs. To receive financial assistance from the student aid program, a student must:
A student must maintain satisfactory academic progress, qualitative and quantitative, to continue receiving financial aid. Satisfactory academic progress means that the student must complete all courses each semester, achieving the required grade according to the Curriculum Organizational Plan, as a full, three-quarter or half-time student. The student must complete the program in a 3-year time frame.
A limited number of partial scholarships are available for School of Nursing students. Scholarships are awarded based on availability of funds, academic performance and financial need, subject to criteria of the donor. For more information, call the Financial Aid Office at 201-833-3004.
Students are considered full-time when they are taking at least 12 credits per semester, three-quarter time if taking at least 9 credits, and half-time if they are taking at least 6 credits per semester.
Students typically complete the entire 2-year program in 2 years. However, qualified students may take up to 3 years if they enroll only in college courses for the first year. Students taking the 3-year track, either by choice or as assigned by the Admissions & Promotions Committee, must pass all their college courses before being admitted into the nursing program.
Prior to receiving any loan funds, students must participate in an entrance counseling session. They must also have an exit counseling session prior to graduation or withdrawal from the program.
Students interested in applying for financial aid must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form for each calendar year. The form can be completed online at www.FAFSA.ed.,gov, or mailed to the Federal Student Aid programs. The School of Nursing may also require additional financial documents. The school code for Holy Name's School of Nursing is 006417.
The School of Nursing participates in the following programs:
Students selected by the scholarship committee will receive notification via email or mail and are required to write a letter of thanks to the donor before funds will be disbursed to the student account card. Financial aid awards are reviewed to determine if they will create a potential over-award in federal funds, and may be reduced if they meet that threshold.
Information about outside scholarships is available in the financial aid office and on Blackboard, the School's online management learning system.
Final exams may not be taken and requests for transcripts will not be honored until students meet all financial obligations.
The Sister Claire Tynan School of Nursing is ACEN-accredited, signifying Holy Name's commitment to national standards and our focus on continuous improvement of our nursing programs.
