Holy Name today announced that it has earned re-accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
This distinction marks Holy Name Medical Center’s third accreditation as an institution, reflecting its continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards in patient care. The MBSAQIP accreditation is renewed every three years and requires hospitals to undergo a rigorous evaluation process each cycle, ensuring ongoing excellence in surgical outcomes, patient safety, and quality improvement.
MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes, sleep apnea, and others. Research shows accredited centers experience lower complications and better outcomes than non-accredited facilities.
“We are proud to receive comprehensive center accreditation for metabolic and bariatric surgery for a third consecutive time, an achievement that reflects our unwavering commitment to patient safety and long-term outcomes,” said Omar E. Bellorin-Marin, MD, FACS, FASMBS, Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and Medical Director GI & Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Holy Name. “This recognition underscores the strength of our multidisciplinary team and our dedication to delivering the highest standard of care to patients on their weight-loss and metabolic health journeys.”
As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, Holy Name also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies a hospital’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.
Holy Name offers a comprehensive weight loss program led by premiere experts in the field, including board-certified bariatric surgeons, physician assistants, dietitians, exercise specialists, board-certified cardiologists, hormone specialists, lung experts, specially trained nurses and nurse practitioners, and support groups.
"ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience, and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Holy Name has shown a commitment providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating itself to continuous self-improvement," said ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS.
