Holy Name Medical Center today announced that it is one of only a few health systems in New Jersey offering a cutting-edge robotic system that makes it easier to find and test small spots in the lungs that may be cancerous. The Galaxy System uses advanced 3D imaging to help doctors locate and navigate to lung nodules, which are small masses in the lungs often tested for cancer.
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the U.S. and the leading cause of cancer deaths in the country. One of the biggest challenges is accurately finding and sampling the smaller lung nodules, which can delay and complicate treatment.
The Galaxy System changes that with its Tool-in-Lesion Tomosynthesis (TiLT) technology, shown to:
With its always-on-camera bronchoscope, direct visualization is enabled for the entire procedure, including the time of biopsy. The Galaxy System is the only bronchoscopy system of its kind with a single-use, disposable scope for each patient, which improves safety and reduces the risk of infection.
"This technology empowers us to confidently detect lung cancer earlier, ultimately saving more lives,” said Paul Han, MD, pulmonary medicine at Holy Name. “We understand the importance of continually evaluating and investing in technologies like the robotic navigated bronchoscopy system that enable our physicians to provide life-changing care and give additional hope and peace of mind to patients.”
