Holy Name Earns 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for Outstanding Safety and Quality

December 16, 2025

Holy Name today was named a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, one of the most competitive and respected honors a U.S. hospital or ambulatory surgery center (ASC) can receive for excellence in safety and quality. The award was presented today at Leapfrog’s 2025 Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it speaks to the dedication and leadership of our chief medical officer, Dr. Vasantha Kondamudi, and to the exceptional clinicians who work every day to ensure our patients receive the best possible experience. Our mission is to pursue excellence – not merely as an achievement, but as a sacred responsibility,” said Mike Maron, President and CEO of Holy Name.“

Out of more than 2,400 hospitals evaluated, just 156 – approximately 6% – earned a Top Hospital Award. Holy Name is proud to be among this elite group, which includes 15 Top Children’s Hospitals, 52 Top General Hospitals, 16 Top Rural Hospitals, and 73 Top Teaching Hospitals.

“Being named as a Leapfrog Top General Hospital is deeply meaningful because it represents what matters most: the safety and well-being of the patients and families who trust us with their care,” said Dr. Vasantha Kondamudi, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Holy Name. “I am incredibly proud of our staff for achieving this distinction. It represents the collective devotion of our physicians, nurses, and staff, who bring compassion and skill to every patient encounter,” she added.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that rates hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers on how well they protect patients from preventable harm, including accidents, injuries, and infections. The Leapfrog Top Hospitals Award is given to teaching, general, rural, and children's hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals methodology. This includes infection rates, maternity care, and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other standards.

To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in their category.

"Holy Name has distinguished itself through an unwavering focus on safety, quality, and patient experience, earning a place on this year’s list of Top Hospitals,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This recognition reflects a culture of transparency and continuous improvement—one embraced by every member of the organization. We commend the entire team at Holy Name for reaching this outstanding milestone."
