When Ginny Adams-Kafka and her family moved to Bergen County during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of her first priorities was finding a new primary care physician. What she didn’t expect was to find someone like internal medicine doctor Dr. Victoria Costales, whose compassion, calm presence, and genuine attentiveness made a lasting impression.
“I immediately felt at ease with her,” Ginny recalls. “She’s kind, approachable, and she really listens. I never feel rushed or dismissed.”
That sense of trust became even more important when Ginny experienced high blood pressure while pregnant in 2024. Dr. Costales carefully monitored her condition and worked with her to find the most effective treatment which included medication. Ginny credits her doctor’s thoughtful approach with helping her feel both supported and in control of her health.
“She made me feel empowered,” Ginny says. “Even small things, like suggesting a neti pot for sinus issues, showed me she cares about my comfort as much as my symptoms. Her approach is so gentle — it’s exactly what I needed, especially during a vulnerable time.”
That positive experience moved Ginny to spread the word. She recommended Dr. Costales to a friend who had experienced medical trauma, knowing that her calm and caring manner would be a good fit. She also shared her praise in a local Jewish women’s Facebook group, where others reached out to her to learn more about Dr. Costales.
“I tell people all the time: Having a primary care doctor like Dr. Costales makes such a difference,” Ginny says. “She’s not just treating symptoms — she’s building a relationship. That’s rare, and it’s something I deeply value.”
