Barbara, 81, has called Bergenfield home for 70 years. When she first came to Holy Name in her late 30s, it felt like a natural extension of the community she already loved. More than four decades later, she's still here and wouldn't have it any other way.
Barbara manages high blood pressure and has a checkup at Holy Name every three months, so consistency and comfort with her doctor is a non-negotiable. When she learned her regular physician would be leaving the practice in the summer of 2025, it gave her pause. But then Barbara met Dr. Ravneet Kaur, and her hesitation didn't last long.
"She's the total package," Barbara says of Dr. Kaur. "She's thorough, attentive, sweet, kind, and very considerate. It feels like we've been friends forever."
A skilled integrative medicine physician who blends evidence-based medicine with holistic care of the whole person, Dr. Kaur keeps Barbara at ease during every visit. Lately, they've been working together on simplifying Barbara's medication routine given her age. It's the kind of thoughtful, personalized care that makes a real difference.
Their relationship has grown into something genuinely warm. They have much in common, including a love for the same snack. When Dr. Kaur mentioned she'd only ever seen it sold in a family-sized bag — not ideal for keeping on hand at the office — Barbara tracked down a smaller bag at a local convenience store and brought it to her next appointment.
"Her visits feel like good friends catching up," Barbara says. "I consider her a doctor/friend."
That feeling extends to Dr. Kaur’s entire team. Barbara has seen her nurse practitioner, Zsamae Lopez, on several occasions and speaks highly of her care as well. Barbara is especially fond of medical assistant Millie, who handles her blood work. "I don't like to look when blood is being drawn," Barbara admits with a laugh. "Millie always knows I don't hydrate before coming in, and she has a baby needle ready for me ahead of time." That quiet, attentive kindness keeps Barbara coming back.
After each appointment, Barbara typically lingers for another 20 minutes, catching up with Tricia, at the front desk, before heading out the door. She's already thinking about her next visit before she's even booked it.
Barbara refers every friend she can to Dr. Kaur and her practice without hesitation. At 81 years young, Barbara knows exactly what good care looks like — and she's found it right here in her own backyard.
