Holy Name Press Releases

Holy Name Medical Center Achieves Full Accreditation for its Family Medicine Residency Program

July 2, 2025

Holy Name is proud to announce that its Graduate Medical Education (GME) program has been recognized with full accreditation of its Family Medicine Residency Program by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This achievement reflects Holy Name’s ongoing commitment to medical excellence, enhanced training opportunities, and improved healthcare outcomes for the communities it serves.

Residency training, which follows the completion of medical school, allows new physicians to specialize in specific areas of medicine and surgery. During residency, doctors train alongside experienced clinicians, participate in research, and enhance healthcare access within the community.

“We are thrilled to receive full accreditation for our Family Medicine Residency Program and to welcome our first residents in summer of 2025,” said Rory Ulloque, MD, MS, Family Medicine Residency Program Director at Holy Name. "We look forward to creating a learning environment that's challenging and supportive to best prepare our future physicians.”

ACGME accreditation of a new residency program is based on published accreditation standards and is accomplished through a peer review process. Participation in ACGME accreditation ensures that residents develop proficiency in six core competencies: patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, systems-based practice, professionalism, and interpersonal skills and communication.

While ACGME accreditation is voluntary, programs must be ACGME-accredited in order to receive graduate medical education funds from the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Residents must graduate from ACGME-accredited programs to be eligible to take their board certification examinations and, in many states, to obtain a medical licensure.

“Our Graduate Medical Education programs are a vital extension of our mission to deliver exceptional care to the community while shaping the next generation of physicians through outstanding training,” said Dr. Vasantha Kondamudi, Chief Medical Officer and Designated Institutional Officer. “At Holy Name, we are committed to preparing our residents to deliver high-quality, compassionate care across the full spectrum of Family Medicine—both in inpatient and outpatient settings—with confidence, competence, and a deep sense of purpose.”
