Overview

The benefit of High School students volunteering is that it allows students to give back to their local community. Provides the teen the exposure of gaining leadership skills and teamwork. Opportunity to meet new friends their age and improve confidence. Whether you are considering a career in medicine or not, Holy Name has a variety of volunteer roles to fit individual time schedules, abilities and interests.

Please Note: Our Junior Volunteer Program is currently full. Please visit our website in October 2026 for updates on the Winter 2026-2027 session.

The Junior Volunteer program includes students who are 16-18 years of age and in Grades 9-12. Please note that the program requirement is Six (6) months and 75 hours.

Opportunities During Summer Session:
Monday - Friday: 4-hour shift either 8 AM - 12 PM or 12 PM - 4 PM.

Opportunities During School Sessions:
Monday - Friday: 2-hour shift; 4 PM - 6 PM
Saturday - Sunday: 4-hour shift either 8 AM - 12 PM or 12 PM - 4 PM.

Brewtique Time Commitment:
Monday - Friday: 8 AM - 12 PM, 12 PM - 4 PM, 4 PM - 7 PM
Saturday - Sunday: 10 AM - 2 PM, 2 PM - 6 PM

A sampling of areas includes:
  • Brewtique: Help to generate Gift Shop sales. Operate the cash register. Become familiarized with Gift Shop stock. Answer phones. Take flower orders. Process credit/debit card payments. Make deliveries to patients. Check in merchandise. Price goods and put on display.
  • Breast Imaging Center (Females Only): Clerical duties (letter folding/envelope stuffing), answering phones, document printing, paperwork filing/sorting, etc..., provide information to patient/family, patient greeting upon arrival, escort patients from lobby to dressing areas, assist patients in dressing areas, scanning, mail certified letters. Saturday: 8 AM - 12 PM or 12 PM - 4 PM (Alternate Week) only.
  • Cancer Center/MS Infusion: Greet patients as they arrive. Provide patient transports and escorts to treatment areas and throughout the hospital. Perform various clerical duties. Prepare and resupply patient treatment areas. Assist staff as needed (Nurses, Technicians, Dieticians, Social Workers).
  • Child Care Center: Help supervise and engage children during playtime, story time, and group activities, assist with organizing toys, preparing simple crafts, or setting up learning materials, provide a friendly, reassuring presence for children adjusting to group care, support teachers with light clean-up and maintaining a safe classroom environment, provide extra hands during transitions, outdoor play, or meal/snack times, assist with light organizational tasks such as replenishing supplies or sanitizing toys, greet children and families with warmth to support a positive atmosphere.
  • Central Sterile Supply: Deliver sterile items to nursing units as orders are completed.
  • Food & Nutrition Services: Cashiers (Check out). Help prepare snack trays. Check expiration dates. Assist with delivering food trays to patients.
  • HNH Fitness Center (Oradell): Observe therapists performing treatments, Assist with preparing daily patient lists for therapists, Set up and break down gym for each session, as directed by therapist, Set up gym with fresh towels, hot/cold packs, replenish supplies, etc.
  • Information Desk: Greet patients and visitors upon arrival. Assist with escorting and transporting patients and visitors. Provide wheelchair assistance when necessary, up to 250 lbs. Help maintain the hospital main lobby in order. Assist visitors in generating visitor passes. Give directions. Validate parking passes. Confirm room number for flower deliveries.
  • Labor and Delivery (LDRP): Answer phones. Assist with patient escort, transport, discharge. Assist any assigned administrative work by staff members. Filing active and discharged charts. Misc. errands to Cart Exchange, Central Sterile Supply, flowers deliveries to patients.
  • MRI: Answer telephone. aAssist with patient escorts, transport, etc. Scan documents and Distribute paperwork. Heavy patient contact.
  • Nurses Stations: Assist nurses in with transporting/discharging patients, delivery and pickup of supplies, provide patients with water and assist at meal time.
  • Rehab Services- Outpatient: Observe therapists performing treatments. Assist with preparing daily patient lists for therapists. Set up and break down the gym for each session, as directed by the therapist. Remove linens and wipe down stretchers. Set up a gym with fresh towels, hot/cold packs, replenish supplies, etc.
  • Same Day Surgery: Discharge/transport patients and assist nurses.
  • Transport: Assist with transport and discharge of patients. Provide wheelchair assistance as necessary. Remain with patients until ground transportation arrives.

Please Note: We accept Junior Volunteer applications twice a year; Summer and Winter.
